Delta price dropped after you booked

If the price of your exact Delta flights goes down after you book, you can ask Delta to reprice your ticket and give you the difference as an eCredit. Your flights, dates and times stay the same.

We did this on a real Main Classic booking on September 3, 2026. A Delta agent in the app’s chat checked the current fare and issued a travel voucher for the difference, $44 per passenger, without reissuing the ticket. Delta’s public FAQ says a price adjustment isn’t possible after 24 hours, so an agent may say no at first; the reply below covers that.

Steps checked against Delta’s own help pages on October 22, 2026. We followed them on a real booking on September 3, 2026.

The steps

Delta gives you the difference as an eCredit when you ask an agent. Same flights.

  1. 1
Message DeltaIn the Fly Delta app, open Message Us (or Delta Concierge) and type “Speak with representative.” Agents answer messages 6am to 11pm Eastern. Or call 800-221-1212.
  2. 2
Ask for a repricing“The price of my flights went down. Please reprice my ticket to today’s lower fare on the exact same flights, same dates and same times. I don’t want to change anything. Please give me the difference as an eCredit.” Your flights stay as they are.
  3. 3
Find the creditIn your SkyMiles account, open Wallet, then Certificates and eCredits. Not there? Look it up at delta.com/redeem.
  4. 4
Check your seatsAfterwards, open your trip at delta.com and pick your seats again if they’re gone.
What you get back

An eCredit or travel voucher for the difference, per passenger, in each passenger’s name.

If they push back, say: “I’m not asking for a refund. Please reprice my ticket to today’s lower fare on the exact same flights, same dates and same times. I don’t want to change anything. Please give me the difference as an eCredit.”

Good to know

  • The credit expires one year from the day you bought the original ticket.
  • The difference usually comes back as airline credit, not cash. Check the expiry date on it; most last about a year.
  • Repricing can lower the status credit you earn on this trip, because some airlines count what you paid.
  • Basic fares can’t be changed for a lower price, so Tuur doesn’t alert on them.

Which tickets qualify

  • Main Classic and above (what Delta used to call Main Cabin). Delta has no change fee on these fares for trips that start in the US or Canada.
  • Not Delta Main Basic (Basic Economy). Changing it costs a fee, $99 on most US trips, which is usually more than the drop.
  • Award tickets bought with miles get miles back instead of an eCredit.

Questions

Can you get money back if your Delta flight price drops?

Yes, as an eCredit, on Main Classic and above. Ask a Delta agent to reprice the same flights; the steps are above.

Does Delta refund the difference in cash?

Not on most tickets. The difference comes back as an eCredit or travel voucher in each passenger’s name. Refundable fares are the exception.

How long does the Delta credit last?

One year from the day you bought the original ticket, not from the day you got the credit. In our test, the credit for a ticket bought on August 27, 2026 has to be used by August 27, 2027.

Will I lose my seats?

They can be. When we did this, the seats had to be picked again. Open your trip at delta.com afterwards and pick them again if they’re gone.
