Do hotels price match?

Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt and IHG each promise to match a lower price you find on another website, as long as you booked with them and claim within about 24 hours. None of them covers what most people run into: the hotel’s own price dropping days or weeks after you book.

For that, if your booking has free cancellation, book the same room again at the lower rate, wait for the confirmation, then cancel the old reservation.

Marriott: Best Rate Guarantee

Covers a lower public price for the same hotel, room and dates on a non-Marriott site or app.
Claim with Marriott’s online form within 24 hours of booking and at least 24 hours before check-in.
You get the lower price plus 25% off (20% at Design Hotels) or 5,000 Bonvoy points.
Bonvoy members only, with the reservation on your member number.
A lower Marriott price found later doesn’t count.

Hilton: Price Match Guarantee

Covers another site’s price at least 1% lower for the same room, dates, guests and cancellation terms.
Book with Hilton first, then claim online within 24 hours and before check-in. Phone claims ended on August 20, 2026.
Prices shown only in an app, after logging in or to members don’t count, and neither do package, group or corporate rates.
You get the lower price plus 25% off the room rate.
Hilton’s own lower prices don’t count.

Hyatt: Best Rate Guarantee

Covers a lower rate on another site for the same hotel, room, guests, dates and cancellation policy.
Claim online or by phone within 24 hours of booking on hyatt.com, and not within 24 hours of check-in.
You get the lower price plus 20% off or 5,000 bonus points.
Hyatt’s own rates don’t count.

IHG: Best Price Guarantee

Covers a price at least 1% lower on a non-IHG site.
Claim online within 24 hours of booking and at least 24 hours before check-in, with your IHG One Rewards number on the booking.
You get the lower price plus five times the points on the room rate, up to 40,000 points. There is no cash discount.
Some hotels are excluded, including those in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

When your hotel’s own price drops

Book the same room again at the lower flexible rate, signed in so it earns your points, wait for the confirmation, then cancel the old reservation before its free-cancellation deadline. Never swap a refundable booking for a prepaid one.

Does Marriott price match?

Only a lower price on another website, claimed within 24 hours of booking on Marriott’s site or app. Marriott matches it and adds 25% off or 5,000 points. If Marriott’s own price drops later, book the lower flexible rate and cancel the old booking.

Does Hilton price match?

Hilton’s version is the Price Match Guarantee. Book with Hilton first, then claim online within 24 hours. The other site’s price must be at least 1% lower and visible without an app or login. Hilton matches it and takes 25% off.

Will a hotel match its own lower price after I book?

No. None of these guarantees covers the chain’s own price falling. If your booking has free cancellation, book the new rate, wait for the confirmation, then cancel the old one.
