Hyatt price dropped after you booked
Hyatt won’t reliably lower the rate on a reservation you already have. Changing a reservation online has been reported to show the lower price on the confirm screen while the booking keeps the old rate. Book the new rate first, signed in so it earns World of Hyatt points, then cancel the old one.
Skip Advance Purchase rates. They are prepaid and can’t be refunded.
Steps checked against Hyatt’s own help pages on October 22, 2026.
The steps
Book the lower rate, then cancel the old reservation.
- 1Book the same room at the new priceSign in at hyatt.com or the World of Hyatt app so the stay earns your points. Same dates, same room, a rate with free cancellation, at the lower price. Skip Advance Purchase rates; they can’t be refunded.
- 2Wait for the new confirmation email
- 3Cancel the old reservationSigned in, open it from your reservations and choose Cancel. Or find it on hyatt.com with your first name, last name and confirmation number. If it doesn’t come up online, call Hyatt.
Good to know
- Used a Suite Upgrade Award on this stay? Call Hyatt before you change anything. The award only works on some rates, comes back about 3 days after you cancel, and suites are limited.
Four rules that keep you safe
- Book the new room first and see its confirmation before you cancel anything. If the lower price disappears while you switch, you still have your room.
- Same hotel, same dates, same room type, beds and meals. A different room is a different price.
- Never swap a booking with free cancellation for a prepaid, non-refundable one.
- Leave yourself time. Switch well before the free-cancellation deadline, not the night before.
Skip the room-switch trick
You may read about changing the room type and then changing it back to force a new price. Don’t: between the two changes your original room or rate can sell out.
Questions
Does Hyatt price match?
Only through its Best Rate Guarantee, which covers a lower price on another site within 24 hours of booking. A later drop in Hyatt’s own price doesn’t qualify, so book the new rate and cancel the old one.
How do I cancel the old Hyatt reservation?
Signed in, open it from your reservations and choose Cancel, or find it on hyatt.com with your first name, last name and confirmation number. If it doesn’t come up online, call Hyatt.
I used a Suite Upgrade Award. Is it safe?
Call Hyatt before you change anything. The award only works on some rates, comes back about 3 days after you cancel, and suites are limited.
